When a license file (certificate) is issued to the customer, it can contain information to validate that it is being used on only a specific license server. In addition, it can contain configuration to allow only a specific client can check out the feature. Host IDs are used to define this information.
Note • Depending on the license model defined for this product, you will be prompted for one or more of the following attributes. If host IDs were implemented for this license model, you will see a set of options:
• | Select Existing Host: select a host ID that has been already defined for this account. |
• | Add New Host: create a host ID that has not been already defined for this account. |
• | Remove: This allows you remove a host ID value from this list. |
Depending on how the license model is defined for this product, there are two types of hosts you can define. You will be provided with the same selections for each host type you must define (Server or Nodelocked). The page will display a label indicating the type of host you are defining.
• | Server host: this information is used to identify the license server that can serve these licenses. |
For example, when you define the Server host to be HOSTNAME=dogma, the license can only be served from a system with the hostname ‘dogma’. The license cannot be used on a system with a different hostname.
Each license server machine is identified by a host ID.
If you specify multiple server host IDs, then multiple license files will be created: one for each host ID (that is, each license server system).
In the case of the node-locked counted license model, you need to define node-locked host IDs for each server host ID (or three-server configuration) specified.
Enter a host ID value identifying the machine where the application will be locked.
• | To lock an application to more than one machine, click Add Nodelocked Host and enter multiple host ID values. |
In the case of the node-locked counted license model, you need to define node-locked host IDs for each server (or three-server configuration) specified.
The following table explains the type of host IDs that you are prompted for based on the license model type.

2. | If the License model is counted (node-locked or floating), you will be prompted to specify a fulfill count for each server host ID, click Next. If you are not required to specify a fulfill count (for example, for uncounted license models) perform one of the following: |
• | To check that the parameter values you have entered are valid, click Verify. |
• | To generate a license certificate, click Generate. |
After a license is generated, it can be saved to disk or sent through email. For unconsolidated licenses, a certificate is issued for each product on each server. For consolidated licenses, one file is issued per server. For more information about viewing a consolidated license, see Consolidating Licenses . If you have selected more than one file to view, you can toggle between license files by selecting the appropriate Consolidated License ID from the drop-down list provided.
